Tsukubane Country Club is an 18-hole, par 72 golf course located in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Situated on the southern slope of Mount Tsukuba, the course is designed in a fan-shaped layout by architect Hachijuuichi Fukui. The terrain is characterized by relatively few ups and downs, a design choice intended to make the course accessible and enjoyable for players of all ages and skill levels. The setting offers expansive views of the Kanto Plain, with Mount Tsukuba visible from nearly every hole, while distant views of Tokyo’s skyscrapers, Mount Fuji, and the Japanese Alps can be seen on clear days. The course features two sets of greens, labeled A and B, on most holes, adding strategic variety to the play. The front nine begins with a downhill par-4 first hole, where the green runs fast from front to back, followed by a short par-5 second hole that requires careful placement off the tee to avoid a shallow left-side slope. The third hole is an uphill par-4 that challenges players to aim for rocks in the fairway, while the fourth hole is a downhill par-3 recommended for birdie attempts, with a hazard to the left. The fifth hole, the handicap-1 par-4, is a downhill shot with a green that slopes quickly from right to back. The sixth and seventh holes present a mix of uphill and downhill challenges, with the seventh being a recommended driving contest hole that requires accuracy to avoid difficult recovery shots from the left side. The front nine concludes with a par-5 eighth hole, where the second shot demands precision as both sides of the fairway are out of bounds, and a par-3 ninth hole that plays over a pond near the tee box. The back nine opens with a downhill par-4 tenth hole, where the fairway narrows around the 100-yard mark. The eleventh hole is a short, slightly downhill par-4 with a difficult green that slopes steeply from back to front. The twelfth hole is an uphill par-4, also recommended for long hitters, featuring a challenging approach shot from 110 yards uphill. The thirteenth hole is a signature par-5, known for its significant downhill slope and rightward dogleg, requiring a cautious tee shot to avoid a steep slope on the right. The fourteenth hole is a par-3 that plays over a valley, with no elevation change but requiring players to read the wind. The fifteenth and sixteenth holes are both uphill par-4s, with the fifteenth featuring a raised green that makes distance control difficult, and the sixteenth requiring players to track the group ahead as the fairway curves out of sight. The seventeenth hole is a par-3 with out-of-bounds to the left, recommended for birdie attempts, while the eighteenth hole is a concluding par-5 that requires a precise tee shot to the right side of the fairway. The course has a rich history, having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024. It is located at 2726 Kannori, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, and can be contacted at 029-866-0224. The club also operates a restaurant for players and visitors.
