Thorpeness Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course located in the coastal village of Thorpeness, Suffolk. Designed by renowned Scottish architect James Braid in 1922, the par 70 course is regarded as one of Britain's finest coastal heathland golf courses. The layout winds through heather, gorse, pine and silver birch trees across low-lying heathland near the Suffolk coast, with firm, quick-draining fairways that allow year-round play. The course is characterized by its natural landscape features, rare birdsong, and distinctive salty sea air, reflecting Braid's design philosophy of respecting the natural lie of the land. The terrain presents a challenging but playable test for golfers of varying abilities. The course operates continuously throughout the year thanks to excellent drainage and course maintenance. Thorpeness is integrated with a hotel offering 36 en-suite bedrooms, multiple dining venues including Ogilvie's tee-view restaurant and Braid's Bar, and a mini golf course, creating a comprehensive golf and leisure destination.
