Teiho Country Club is an 18-hole championship course located in a hilly area near the city of Toyota in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Designed by Yasuzo Kaneko and opened in October 1966, the course is set on a slope that offers expansive views of the surrounding urban landscape. The layout is characterized by wide fairways separated by trees, providing ample room for long hitters while maintaining strategic challenges for all skill levels. The course features a mix of uphill and downhill holes, with several significant elevation changes that influence club selection and shot placement. The course plays to a par 72, with yardages varying significantly by tee color. The white tees offer a total distance of 6,330 yards, while the black tees extend the course to 7,100 yards. The front nine begins with a dramatic downhill left-dogleg par 5, setting a tone of strategic risk and reward. The back nine features the course’s signature hole, the 10th, a long par 4 that stretches 421 yards from the white tees. This hole is widely recognized as a defining challenge, requiring both distance off the tee and precision on the approach. Other notable holes include the 16th, a 216-yard par 3 that can require a driver depending on pin placement, and the 18th, a 492-yard downhill par 5 that offers sweeping views of the Toyota city center. Teiho Country Club has a strong tournament history, having hosted the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association (JLPGA) Tour Championship five times, as well as the Toyota Ladies tournament seven times. The course is rated at 72.6 for the full back from the white tees, indicating a high level of difficulty. The greens are maintained in both bentgrass and Korai grass varieties, with the latter adding to the speed and challenge of the putting surfaces. The course is known for its demanding approach shots, with many greens protected by bunkers, out-of-bounds areas, and severe slopes. The wide fairways allow for aggressive play, but the penalty for errant shots is often severe, requiring careful course management.
