Sylvan Heights Golf Course officially opened in 1928 and is operated by the city's Department of Parks and Recreation, and is one of the oldest municipal public golf courses in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The design is carved into the rolling terrain of New Castle, Pennsylvania, with stunning views of the surrounding hills, framed by the shady canopies of mature trees.
The course underwent a major renovation in 1998 to enhance its playability and challenge, with strategically placed sand traps and restructured tees to accommodate both men's and women's needs. Arnold Palmer played in the West Penn Amateur at Sylvan Heights in 1948. Sylvan Heights is owned by the City of New Castle and is operated by its Parks and Recreation Department.
