Swinley Forest Golf Club is an 18-hole heathland course located near Ascot in Berkshire, set within the wider Swinley Forest on land historically part of the Windsor Great Park estate. Designed by Harry Colt and opened in 1909, the course stretches to around 6,431 yards with a par of 69, comprising two par fives, eleven par fours, and five par threes. Colt himself considered it his finest work, famously describing it with characteristic modesty as his "least bad course."

The terrain is classic Surrey-Berkshire heathland, with mature pines and birch framing the fairways without generally encroaching on play, while broad swathes of heather provide definition and penalise errant shots. The course sits on sandy subsoil and features undulating, intricately contoured greens positioned in natural hollows and on ridges — a hallmark of Colt's design philosophy. Despite a yardage that appears modest by modern standards, the layout plays longer than it looks, with uphill approaches, false fronts, and complex green surrounds demanding a precise short game.

The five par threes are widely regarded as the course's defining feature, each varying in length and character. The 4th plays to a Redan-style green guarded by a deep pit, the 8th green sits on a ledge with a sharp drop-off to one side, and the 17th features a small pulpit green requiring an exacting tee shot. Swinley Forest has never hosted major professional tournaments and has historically remained deliberately removed from the competitive golf circuit, with formal scorecards and member competitions only introduced in the 1990s.
