Stellenbosch Golf Club, the fourth oldest golf club in South Africa, evolved from a 9-hole course to an 18-hole championship layout in 1953, celebrating its centenary in 2004. Located at the foot of the Helderberg mountains on the outskirts of Stellenbosch, the course offers a parkland setting with characteristic winelands vineyards bordering some holes and spectacular mountain vistas throughout.
The course meanders through mature trees that frame most holes, with each presenting distinct and memorable characteristics. The layout combines scenic beauty with challenging play, featuring notably tricky greens. The setting integrates the natural landscape seamlessly, with holes offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and town.
Stellenbosch Golf Club has hosted several prestigious South African tournaments, including the 1999 South African Open and five South African Masters tournaments. The course maintains high standards in condition and presentation, complemented by comprehensive facilities including practice areas, pro shop, and clubhouse amenities. The combination of championship-quality design, scenic mountain and vineyard setting, and challenging greens makes it a significant venue in South African golf.
