The Jones Course at Speidel Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course featuring 7,001 yards from the championship tees with a par of 71. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and opened in 1969, the course is located in Wheeling, West Virginia within the 2,000-acre Oglebay Park Resort, approximately 60 miles from Pittsburgh. The course offers five sets of tee markers, ranging from 4,659 to 7,001 yards, accommodating golfers of all skill levels.
The course presents significant challenges through its traditional design incorporating narrow, tree-lined fairways routed over hilly terrain with dramatic elevation changes. Level lies are rare throughout the round, and players must navigate around trees and rough areas while managing the course's strategically sloped greens. The back nine is particularly formidable, and elevated tee boxes provide clear views of challenging holes, though downhill par-3s offer little relief. Fast, sloping putting surfaces add to the difficulty of the green complexes.
The Jones Course has a notable tournament history, having hosted the West Virginia LPGA Classic for 11 years and the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The course is part of Speidel Golf Club's 36 holes of championship golf, which also includes the Arnold Palmer-designed Palmer Course. The course features bent grass fairways and greens, with practice facilities including a driving range, short game area, and putting green.
