Sleepy Hollow Country Club is a historic country club in Scarborough-on-Hudson in Briarcliff Manor, New York. The club was founded in 1911, and its clubhouse was known as Woodlea, a 140-room Vanderbilt mansion. The 18-hole course features 6,547 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. Designed by Charles B. Mac Donald/A. W. Tillinghast, with a redesign by Gil Hanse, the golf course opened in 1914.
The course originally consisted of 11 Macdonald-designed holes and seven added in 1927 by A.W. Tillinghast, which were rebuilt in Macdonald's style during the mid-2000s renovation. Sleepy Hollow now features some of Macdonald's ideal holes, like the Eden, Knoll, Leven and Road holes. The course provides a great challenge with smaller greens, mature trees, and features rolling terrain with nice elevations around the course. The elevation changes make it a challenging course with very few level lies; views from the top of the hill over the Hudson River are breathtaking; thousands of trees were removed during renovation to open up the course and give broad views.
Notable features include the 16th green with its thumbprint and Hudson River views, and long rustic bridges connecting the 3rd, 4th, 15th and 16th greens. The club hosted the NYNEX Commemorative from 1986 to 1993, and in 2002, hosted the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship. Sleepy Hollow hosted the 2023 U.S. Mid-Amateur.
