Located in Silver Lake, Ohio, the golf course at Silver Lake Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 layout designed by Larry Packard and Brent Wadsworth. The course spans 120 acres of rolling terrain and measures 6,713 yards from the blue tees. Construction began in June 1958, with the initial nine holes opening for play on June 20, 1959. The layout features bent grass fairways and is characterized by large, well-trapped greens, doglegs, and water hazards that challenge golfers of varying skill levels. The course presents a variety of strategic challenges, including significant elevation changes and narrow driving corridors. The 12th hole is a short but demanding par-3 that requires precision to avoid out-of-bounds areas to the left. The 8th hole is a par-5 where the tee shot must navigate around water on the right side, leading to a difficult approach on a slightly elevated, narrow green. Several holes, including the 5th and 13th, feature uphill approach shots to greens that slope severely from back to front, requiring players to stay below the hole to secure manageable putts. The front nine opens with a 350-yard par-4 on the blue tees, where favoring the right side of the fairway sets up an approach to a green that slants right to left. The back nine includes a 545-yard par-5 11th hole, where the layup shot is complicated by trees that can block the right side of the fairway. The course also features a 406-yard par-4 14th hole, a left-to-right dogleg with out-of-bounds running down the left side, demanding an accurate drive to set up a manageable second shot. Brent Wadsworth, who moved his family to the property to oversee construction, went on to build more than 600 courses nationwide and received the Donald Ross Award from the American Golf Course Architects Association. He returned to the course in 2003 for a cart tour, expressing pride in how the layout had matured over the decades. The course remains a central feature of the club, offering a mix of challenging play and scenic terrain for its members.
