Shin Minami Aichi Country Club Mihama Course is an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout located in Mihama, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Situated on the Chita Peninsula within the Mikawa Wan Quasi-National Park, the course spans 6,921 yards from the black tees, with white tees measuring 6,057 yards and red tees at 5,361 yards. The design emphasizes strategic play, integrating the natural landscape and seasonal beauty into a layout that demands technical precision and thoughtful club selection. The course is characterized by its challenging nature, requiring golfers to navigate a variety of terrain features and hazards. The front nine begins with the first hole, a par-4 where the tee shot must avoid a right-side slope and out-of-bounds zone, favoring the left side of the fairway. The third hole, a par-5 measuring 525 yards from the black tees, presents a deceptive distance with a dogleg left, requiring careful club selection to avoid a large bunker on the left front of the green. The back nine features the 12th hole, a 570-yard par-5 where the second shot must clear a bridge and aim slightly right of the fairway center, while the green slopes quickly from the back. The closing holes provide significant tests for the player. The 18th hole is a par-4 that plays downhill, featuring a three-tiered water hazard on the left side and cross bunkers at the 230-yard mark. The approach shot must navigate these hazards to avoid the out-of-bounds area behind the green. The course is known for its strategic demands, with holes designed to require intelligent shot-making rather than just power. The layout was developed with input from professional golfer Ayako Okamoto, who has a long-standing connection to the club. Her involvement ensured that the course offers a blend of natural beauty and rigorous challenge, with varied tree lines and terrain that provide both a test for skilled players and a pleasant experience for others. The course is maintained to provide a consistent challenge throughout the year, with specific hazards like bunkers and water features playing a critical role in scoring.
