Shillong Golf Course ☆ Follow

The Shillong Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 70 layout situated on approximately 121 acres of land in Shillong, India. Located at an altitude of 4,750 feet above mean sea level, it is recognized as the highest golf course in Asia. The course measures 6,081 yards in length and is owned and managed by The Shillong Club. Originally established as a nine-hole course in 1878 by ICS officers J C Arbuthnoth and B C Allen at Laban, now known as Garrison Ground and Hydari Park, the course was later upgraded. The conversion to the current 18-hole configuration in 1924 was initiated by Captain Jackson and C K Rhodes, with E L Walts also credited for laying out the picturesque grounds. The Shillong Golf Course is the third oldest golf course in India and the first 18-hole course in Asia. The course is surrounded by tall, elegant pine trees and is noted for its scenic beauty, having been titled the "Gleneagles of the East" by the LIS Golf Association & Museum. It serves as a key venue for the National Golf circuit and is accessible to official members of the club throughout the year.
