Royal Star Golf Club is a 27-hole facility located in Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture, situated within the gentle rolling hills of the Boso Peninsula. The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops: the Out Course, the In Course, and the New Course. Each loop plays to a par of 36, resulting in a total course par of 108. The layout is designed to utilize the natural topography of the region, offering a strategic challenge that relies on careful course management rather than sheer distance. The Out Course begins with a demanding par-5 first hole that plays as a downhill shot, setting a tone of precision required for the front nine. The back nine of this loop features the par-5 seventh hole, which presents a two-tiered fairway and requires players to navigate around three pine trees guarding the green. The In Course introduces significant water hazards, most notably on the 15th hole, a par-4 where the tee shot must carry 150 yards over water. The 11th hole, a par-5 dogleg right, requires a long tee shot over a valley, while the 16th is a long par-3 that demands accuracy to avoid a valley short of the green. The New Course offers a different set of challenges, starting with a downhill par-5 first hole that emphasizes accuracy on the second shot. This loop includes several short par-4s, such as the 14th in the In Course which plays only 327 yards from the back tees, and the 2nd hole on the New Course at 356 yards. However, the New Course also features the 6th hole, a par-5 that is short in distance but difficult in execution, requiring an uphill approach shot. The course utilizes Bentgrass on the greens and features multiple tee boxes, including Back, Regular, and Ladies options, to accommodate varying skill levels. Strategic elements are prevalent throughout the layout, with numerous holes featuring out-of-bounds areas, particularly on the left side of fairways. The course is equipped with cart navigation systems that provide distance information and safety alerts, assisting players in managing hazards and maintaining pace of play. The design encourages thoughtful club selection and shot placement, with specific advice provided for each hole to help golfers navigate the undulating terrain and avoid penalties.
