The Royal Ottawa Golf Club is one of Canada's oldest golf institutions, founded in 1891 and granted its "Royal" designation in 1912. Located in Gatineau, Quebec, on the Aylmer Road, the club features 27 holes of championship golf. The course was originally designed by renowned Chicago architect Tom Bendelow and later refined by British Open champion Willie Park Jr.
The club has hosted significant tournaments, including the 2000 LPGA Championship won by Meg Mallon, where average scores exceeded par, demonstrating the course's challenging nature. The course record of 62 was set by Eric Kaufmanis in 1979. The Royal Ottawa has produced notable players throughout its history, including Karl Keffer, a club professional who won the Canadian Open twice (1909, 1914).
Set on substantial acreage with splendid practice facilities, the club maintains championship-caliber conditioning. The clubhouse, rebuilt multiple times following fires in 1909 and 1930, reflects graceful design and has undergone extensive modern renovations while preserving its heritage character. The club combines challenging golf with a strong community atmosphere and social tradition.
