Located in Gatineau, Quebec, Rivermead Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course situated just 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa. The layout was originally designed by Charles Murray in 1910 as a nine-hole course, with the full 18 holes completed in 1915 by George Cumming, an associate of Stanley Thompson. The course underwent significant renovation in 1989 by architects Ken Skodecek and Ken Venturi, followed by a five-year improvement project led by Jeff Mingay that concluded in 2023. This recent work aimed to restore the course to its Golden Age-era roots, featuring reimagined bunkering, expanded short grass areas, and the addition of multiple new tees. The course presents a strategic test with a variety of hole configurations. The scorecard includes five par 3s, six par 4s, and seven par 5s, with holes 7, 11, and 18 offering flexible par 4/5 options. The layout is designed to challenge golfers through strategic placement and the restored Golden Age characteristics. The course has been ranked #72 in Canada and #8 in Quebec by Top 100 Golf Courses. Rivermead holds a significant place in Canadian golf history, having hosted the 1920 Canadian Open won by James Douglas Edgar. The club also hosted the 1925 Ladies’ Canadian Amateur Championship, the 1932 and 1959 CPGA Championships, and the 2025 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship. Since 1936, the Rivermead Cup has been awarded to the low Canadian at the Canadian Open, with champions including Walter Hagen, Tommy Armour, Moe Norman, Mike Weir, and Nick Taylor. The club has also hosted the Alexander of Tunis tournament 23 times since 1950.
