River Bend Municipal Golf Course opened in 1971 to serve the town of Story City and neighboring communities. The 9-hole course measures 2,934 yards with a par of 36 for men and 2,725 yards with a par of 37 for the ladies. The course was designed by Charles Calhoun. The course is located at 720 Forest Ave, Story City, Iowa 50248.
The course offers a player-friendly layout and challenges better players with trees and water in play on almost every hole. River Bend is a Par 36 with two par 3's and two par 5's, with a couple dog legs, bunkers and a few holes where water comes into play. The course has a slope of 117. The original site was selected because of its rolling land and a creek running through the 75 acres.
The clubhouse and bar were built in 2010 and offer a warm comfortable environment to relax with friends. The course development followed a thirteen-year process beginning in 1958 when Robert Cole initiated a public meeting, leading to the formation of the Story City Golf and Country Club in 1961, with Doc Semler, Sr. later emerging as a strong proponent for the project from the Story City Development Commission.
