Red Mountain Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course measuring 6,781 yards from the championship tees, located in the Kathu district of Phuket, Thailand. Opened in 2007, it was designed by Jonathan Morrow and Al Tikkanen of the Morrow Tikkanen design company, and was Morrow's first full 18-hole layout. The course is built entirely on the site of a former tin mine, and the design embraces the industrial heritage of the land — flooded mining pits form water hazards, exposed rock faces reveal vivid red clay, and eroded ridges and gullies from decades of excavation are preserved as natural features throughout.
The terrain is dramatically undulating, making it Phuket's hilliest course and requiring mandatory golf carts throughout. Seashore paspalum fairways and Bermuda hybrid greens are maintained to a high standard. The front nine plays through the lower portions of the site with lakes and waste areas prominent, while the back nine climbs steeply into the mountains. The 16th hole sits at the highest point of any golf course on the island, offering views across Phuket city to the Big Buddha. The signature 17th is a par-3 of 169 yards played from a precipitous elevated tee with a drop of over 40 metres down through dense jungle to a small green below. The 18th plays shorter than its 500-yard length suggests but demands careful course management. Red Mountain was voted among the top three new courses in Asia upon opening in 2007.
