Ravensworth Golf Club

Ravensworth Golf Club is an 18-hole course established in 1906, located in Eighton Banks, Gateshead. The course features tight fairways and fast-running greens that provide a challenging test for golfers of all abilities.

The layout includes one par 5 (Peggy's Bank at 496 yards), multiple long par 3s, and strategically demanding par 4s. Notable holes include the opening Ridge hole with out-of-bounds down the right, the treacherous Spion Kop with its blind second shot to a well-bunkered green, and the demanding Bridge hole, which was stroke index 1 for many years. The Island (par 3) and Eighton (par 3) present significant challenges with their length and hazard placement.

The course is characterized by numerous hazards including bunkers, water features, ditches, streams, and out-of-bounds areas that penalize wayward shots. Elevation changes throughout the course add complexity, with several holes playing uphill or downhill. The greens vary in design with two-tier surfaces common, requiring precise approach shots and careful reading. Wind direction significantly influences club selection on many holes, particularly the longer par 3s.
