The GOLF-клуб Завидово PGA National is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course located in Russia, designed by the international architecture firm European Golf Design. The course is styled as a links and heathland layout, featuring 6,700 meters of length from the championship tees, 13 water hazards, and 72 sand bunkers planted with heather. The design incorporates undulating fairways, multi-tiered greens, and numerous water obstacles that integrate with the traditional links and heathland aesthetic. The course was developed under a master plan by EDAW and opened to players in 2012, adhering to USGA standards for playing surfaces. The front nine begins with a demanding par-4 first hole, a long and difficult start that requires a fade to the right side of the fairway to open up the diagonal green, with deep bunkers and hollows penalizing misses. The opening sequence includes a series of par-4s, such as the second hole, which features a raised, ridge-like green divided into two distinct landing zones, and the third, an uphill shot requiring accuracy on a fairway marked by numerous dips and mounds. The fourth hole is a unique par-3 that plays downhill, with a green sloping from front to back, where the difficulty increases significantly with left tee markers and back-left flag positions. The fifth hole serves as the first par-5, offering a relatively straightforward landing area between fairway bunkers, with a narrow green protected by water on the left. The middle of the front nine introduces strategic complexity, particularly on the sixth hole, a short par-4 where players must choose between a risky direct approach to a narrow putting surface or a layup shot. The seventh is a deceptive short par-3 where the green sits on a rolling hill surrounded by deep bunkers, with the right side of the green being particularly hazardous. The eighth hole is a dogleg-left par-4 that breaks a streak of easier holes, demanding precise placement on the fairway to avoid bunkers and set up an approach shot. The course continues with a variety of challenges, including the eighth hole's dogleg layout and the subsequent holes that test distance control and accuracy. The back nine features holes like the 15th, which is described as a short nine-hole loop option for certain tournaments, indicating the course's flexibility for different formats. The design emphasizes strategic decision-making, with each hole offering a unique character and strategic proposition, from the long, demanding starts to the tricky, undulating greens. The course is licensed by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, underscoring its adherence to professional standards. Tournament history at the club includes events such as the Zavidovo Masters, the Novice Cup, and the Aronov Cup, as well as the XII Tver Region Golf Cup. The club also hosts the "Big Opera in Zavidovo" festival and various charity events, indicating its role as a hub for both competitive golf and cultural activities. The course is open from May to October, with specific tee times and booking requirements, including the necessity of an official handicap for play. The facility includes a driving range, practice greens, and a putting green, supporting both serious practice and casual play.
