Olivas Links is a links-style golf course located in Ventura, California, approximately 60 minutes north of Los Angeles and 40 minutes south of Santa Barbara, situated near the Ventura Harbor off the 101 freeway. Designed by architect Forrest Richardson, the course nestles next to the Santa Clara River and showcases views of Ventura Harbor, hillsides, and the Channel Islands.
The course features four distinct sets of tees accommodating players of all skill levels. Richardson's design philosophy emphasizes natural golf, with short wind-shaped trees and open holes that follow the natural lay of the land and water flows. The layout encourages creative shot-making and various club selections typical of links-style play, with holes pinching down where the terrain naturally curves and drops.
Owned by the City of Ventura, Olivas Links benefits from a temperate coastal climate with prevailing breezes that keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. The course integrates native plant life and provides habitat for indigenous fauna. The practice facility spans one and a half acres with grass tees, five bunkered target greens, bent grass short-game practice areas, and a putting surface designed for consistent roll and speed. The course offers a natural competitive experience emphasizing the interplay between player skill and natural conditions.
