The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Old South was recognized by Golf Digest as one of the "Top Ten New Public Courses" in 1992 and voted Hilton Head Monthly's Favorite Public Course in the Hilton Head Area 2008-2010 and 2012-2020, and was honored as the Lowcountry Golf Course of the Year in 2011 and 2021. Rolling terrain beneath towering oaks features 16 of the 18 holes without the intrusion of homes. The course hosts diverse wildlife, from wood storks and soaring hawks to grazing deer and alligators inhabiting the lagoons.

Old South Golf Links is GEO Certified, an internationally recognized distinction for sustainability in golf, and has earned Certification in Environmental Planning from the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program. The course was designed to preserve the natural beauty of the land, allowing golfers to experience the site's natural amenities and spectacular views. The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.
