Navatanee Golf Course is a 6,902-yard championship layout located in Thailand, designed by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. The course was constructed in 1973 by founder Sukum Navapan, who transformed paddy fields into a facility intended to host international competition. The design philosophy focused on creating a layout that presented a tough challenge for professional golfers while remaining accessible to players of more modest talent. This vision resulted in the architect's first masterpiece in Asia, establishing the course as an exclusive venue with international standards. The course holds significant tournament history, most notably serving as the host venue for the 23rd World Cup of Golf in 1975. The event was won by the United States team, featuring Johnny Miller and Lou Graham. In 1999, the course hosted the Kingdom’s National Open to commemorate the King of Thailand’s 6th cycle birthday. That same year, Golf Digest USA ranked Navatanee among the top courses in mainland Thailand, cementing its reputation in the region. The setting is characterized by the presence of Flame of the Forest and Rosewood trees, along with bougainvillea adorning the fairways. The terrain features water hazards that define the strategic nature of the holes. The signature 6th hole is a 445-yard par-4 that requires a draw-shaped shot from the tee. This hole is guarded by water along the entire left side of the fairway and a lake fronting the green in a sweeping reverse 'S' shape, making par a notable achievement for golfers. Despite its proximity to central Bangkok, the course is designed to allow golfers to complete a round within four hours. The combination of its historical significance, architectural design, and natural surroundings creates a distinct environment for play. The layout remains a legendary course in Thailand, recognized for its ability to challenge players while maintaining a serene atmosphere.
