Mullingar Golf Club was designed by renowned Scottish golf architect James Braid and created in 1935, set in a mature wooded parkland that was once part of the Belvedere Estate. The course layout comprises 6,685 yards with a classic par 72 balance of 10 par 4s, 4 par 5s and 4 par 3s. The club is located at Belvedere, Mullingar, 5km south of the town centre and just off the main N52 route, 80km west of Dublin. All four par 3s are feature holes, with the 209 yard second being the signature hole; with its elevated tee and green it is considered one of the best par 3s in Irish golf. The course was upgraded in the early 2000s with USGA standard greens and tees, strategic bunkering and the relocation of four greens. Since 1963 the venue plays annual host to the Mullingar Scratch Trophy, one of the leading amateur golf tournaments on the Irish calendar. Previous winners include major champions Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, twelve Walker Cup players and Ryder Cup team members.
