Monterey Country Club

Monterey Country Club is a nine-hole course located in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania, approximately 8 miles from Camp David and less than a mile from the Mason-Dixon Line. Built before the 1890s, it ranks among the five oldest golf courses in the United States out of over 15,000 courses nationwide.

The course is carved from terrain shaped by prehistoric glaciers and sits beneath the peaks of Mt. Dunlap (1,720 feet) and Monterey Peak (1,365 feet), offering scenic mountain views characteristic of Pennsylvania's landscape. The layout emphasizes accuracy and positional play reflecting classic golf design principles.

Notable holes include the challenging 387-yard dogleg first hole, which crosses a brook and is considered the most difficult. The fifth hole features a distinctive Scottish-style mound spanning the entire fairway width in front of the green. The seventh hole presents a demanding bowl-shaped green that requires precision from the tee.

The course holds historical significance, situated near the site of the 1863 Monterey Skirmishes during the Civil War. The property was part of a prominent 19th-century resort area that attracted notable families and diplomats. President Eisenhower played the course during visits to Camp David, cementing its place in American golf history.
