Metropolitan Golf Links is a Johnny Miller and Fred Bliss-designed links-style course located just east of Oakland International Airport in Oakland, California. Built on the site of the original Galbraith Golf Course, the designers dramatically enhanced the landscape by adding two feet of sand and installing modern turf hybrids to improve drainage and playability. The course features wide-open fairways in the tradition of links golf, with native grasses and heather adding to its character. Large, receptive greens with undulating surfaces accommodate golfers of all skill levels, while six sets of tees provide appropriate challenge options. Minimal bunkering and few water hazards mean the course relies on its open design and bay winds to challenge skilled players. The firm, fast playing conditions maintained year-round, particularly in summer, are characteristic of authentic links courses. Metropolitan Golf Links remains playable even when nearby courses are waterlogged, making it consistently accessible. The facility includes an all-grass driving range and short-game area, complementing the championship-caliber course design.
