Metropolis Country Club is an 18-hole, par-70 golf course established in 1922 in White Plains, New York. Originally designed by Herbert Strong, the course underwent significant evolution through contributions from renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast, who redesigned holes 7, 12, 13, and 14. Joe Finger reconfigured holes 15 and 16 in the early 1970s, while Ken Dye extended the course to its current championship length of 6,827 yards in 1998-1999. A comprehensive restoration led by architect Ron Forse was completed in spring 2015.
The course demands precision play, featuring doglegs, uneven lies, and undulating greens that challenge all aspects of a golfer's game. The signature sixth hole is recognized by golf publications as among the region's best 18 holes and ranks among the world's top 500. Consistently ranked among the Metropolitan area's premier courses, Metropolis has hosted major professional and amateur championships. The club has employed notable golf professionals, including Paul Runyan (1931-1943), Jack Burke Jr. (1948-1950), and Lighthorse Harry Cooper (1953-1978), establishing a strong tradition of excellence in instruction and professional golf.
