The Lake Course is one of two 18-hole courses at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, North Carolina. Designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course opened in 1971 and features captivating views while winding around the 315-acre Lake Trace. In 2015, the course underwent a major renovation by architect David Whelchel that included tree removal for improved sightlines, fairway recontouring, bunker modifications, and tee box expansion and leveling.

The course offers five sets of tees—Black, Blue, White, Gold, and Red—to accommodate players of all skill levels, with slope ratings of 139 for Black tees and 124 for Red tees. The fairways consist of Bermuda grass while the greens feature Mini-Verde, an ultra-dwarf Bermuda variety. Water hazards and elevation changes throughout the layout provide strategic challenges.

The Lake Course has hosted several significant tournaments, including the US Women's Open Sectional Qualifier for six consecutive years from 2009 to 2014. The course also hosted the North Carolina Super Senior Amateur State Championship in 2013 and the North Carolina Women's Senior State Amateur Championship in 2000.
