Located in Hanno, Saitama, Komagawa Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Koji Yasuda and constructed by Kashima Construction. The club opened in October 1972, and the course is set within a 228,000-square-meter landscape that features rolling hills and varied elevation changes. The layout is divided into an outward nine and an inward nine, with the total yardage ranging from 5,009 yards on the red tees to 6,788 yards on the black tees. The course is known for its wide fairways and the absence of out-of-bounds hazards on the inward nine, allowing for aggressive play. The course design incorporates a mix of uphill and downhill shots, with the outward nine described as a hilly course that rewards distance. The third hole, a 490-yard par 5 from the black tees, and the ninth hole, a 508-yard par 5, are highlighted as key long holes. The inward nine features significant elevation changes, including the 16th hole, a 193-yard par 3 that plays uphill to a green sloping from right to left. The 17th hole, a 480-yard par 5, is another demanding uphill challenge that requires a powerful drive to reach the green in regulation. Green conditions have evolved significantly since the club's opening. Originally featuring turf beds with Korean bentgrass, the greens were renovated in the early 2000s to USGA-spec sand greens to improve drainage and playing conditions. The current greens are planted with T1 bentgrass, a variety known for its smooth roll and durability. The course utilizes two different greens, designated as K and B greens, which are used on different days of the week. The K greens are generally faster and present a steeper challenge, while the B greens offer a slightly different contour and speed. The course is managed by Tokyu Green System, which oversees the maintenance of the fairways, rough, and greens. The club offers a range of tee boxes to accommodate different skill levels, with course ratings ranging from 63.5 on the red tees to 72.5 on the black tees. The layout is designed to test players with a variety of shot shapes and distances, from short par-3s like the 135-yard fourth hole to long par-5s that require strategic management of the fairway and green complexes. The course is open to the public and offers a range of facilities including a restaurant and club rental services.
