The Jack Nicklaus Private Course at PGA West is an 18-hole, par-72 layout playing 6,951 yards. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Rick Jacobson, and Thomas Pearson and opened in 1987, it is located in Southern California's Coachella Valley in La Quinta, surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains. The course has the highest stroke (74.3) and slope (146) ratings of the three private courses at PGA West, featuring elevated tees, sunken fairways, blind shots, and severely contoured and shaped greens.
Once ranked among the "Top 100 Courses in the World," the course presents a significant test of golf with distinctive design elements. Notable holes include the 414-yard 2nd hole routed around the Coachella Canal, the sand-protected 167-yard 7th, the 530-yard 16th with a very narrow and distorted green, and the 455-yard water-fringed 18th. The course served as a popular host venue for the Humana Challenge (formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic).
