Hotel Royal Hsinchu Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course located in Guanxi, Hsinchu County, Taiwan, at an average elevation of 300 meters. Designed by renowned architect J. Michael Poellot, the course exemplifies strategic design principles suitable for both beginners and experienced golfers.
The course features a distinctive landscape with rolling terrain characteristic of the region's foothills. Notable design elements include rare beach bunkers, marble waterfall features, and scenic vistas that resemble landscape paintings, particularly striking after rainfall and at sunset. The greens are planted with Tif-Taiwan grass, a hybrid Bermuda variety that allows cutting to 0.318cm while maintaining density, providing professional-level green speeds and playability suited to Taiwan's humid subtropical climate.
The course presents moderate to challenging difficulty with strategic hazards including rough grasses, sand bunkers, and water features that test both technique and course management. All pin positions are rated on a difficulty scale of 1-4, meeting international standards. USGA ratings range from 70.0 to 72.9 depending on tee selection, with slope ratings of 124-129. The course has hosted TPGA tournaments, including the Royal Open Championship, establishing its reputation as an international-standard facility.
