Established in 1895, the club has been a cornerstone of the community, Helmsdale Community Golf Club is a 9 hole, par 27, 1860 yard golf course. The nine holes wind their way through bracken, gorse and broom and are a picture in the springtime and early summer, with accuracy, not length, key to laying many of the varied holes. Notable holes include the ninth, a par three at 192 yards, and the second hole at just 87 yards, with the ninth tee providing a panoramic view out to sea in the east and to the west the gold diggings of Kildonan.

The course overlooks the town's famous salmon river and is a testing healthland golf course, surrounded by the Helmsdale Strath and overlooking the Moray Firth. A welcoming clubhouse is open to all, and the surrounding area boasts scenic walks with panoramic views of the sea.
