Gulph Mills Golf Club was founded in 1916 and had an 18-hole layout in play three years later, once Donald Ross had built the course for the membership. The club is located at 200 Swedeland Road in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The course features 18 holes with a length of 6,627 yards and a slope of 139. It is a Donald Ross course with a lay of the land design on a small property by modern standards.
The course is located on rolling property just southwest of Philadelphia on land that was originally part of a 1684 land grant from William Penn to Peter Yocum, later becoming the Walnut Grove Farm before being sold to the newly formed Gulph Mills Golf Club in 1916. The course features no parallel holes, with holes running virtually to all compass points, gently undulating ground, and large undulating greens.
The course has a fascinating architectural history with names such as Donald Ross, William Flynn, Perry Maxwell, William Gordon, Robert Trent Jones, Tom Fazio, and most recently Gil Hanse attached to the club's history. Gil Hanse began working with the club in 2000 to restore this course to its Ross roots, including large-scale tree removal and opening playing vistas that were once lost to time, bringing back many original Ross features.
