The Griffin Bell Golf Course is owned and operated by Georgia Southwestern State University and offers open play to all golfers. It's a short course at only 6,096 yards from the back tees but it still presents quite a challenge. The challenging 18-hole golf course is not overly long, but requires accurate tee shots and precise irons to find the surface of the smaller than average greens. The course features 6359 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72, with a course rating of 68.9 and a slope rating of 120.

The layout features small, elevated greens that demand accurate iron shots, with mature trees framing most of the holes and strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the greens. Moderate rough and few undulations in the always fast greens make the course a stern test for the better player and quite playable for the average golfer. The course is located right in between Andersonville and Plains, Georgia, the home of President Jimmy Carter. The Southwestern golf course opened in 1940.
