The Legacy Course is an 18-hole layout stretching 7,151 yards with a par of 72, designed by Rees Jones and opened in 2000. The course is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Hoover, Alabama, just southeast of Birmingham. The Legacy course features placid lakes, rolling hills, and wandering streams that wind throughout the entire course, carved into the valley of Double Oak Mountain. The course has five sets of tees with additional combo opportunities to ensure that it plays to all levels of golfers.
The course rating is 74.7 with a slope rating of 146, presenting a significant challenge to golfers. The track is situated in the Double Oak Mountain Valley with many tree lined fairways, featuring lakes, rolling hills and streams that wind through the course. The course has big wide fairways that offer plenty of landing room, though wayward drives can be punished as the majority of the holes are completely framed by trees. The strength of the course is the collection of par 5s, with three of the four moving from left to right and the other dead straight.
The Legacy Course is currently ranked #89 in Golf Week's Top 100 Residential Courses. As part of Greystone Golf & Country Club, it is a part of an 18-hole private, members-only club that also features the Founders Course. In 2021, a Golf Course Master Plan was developed, with construction beginning in June 2022 that included the regrassing of green and tee surfaces and the complete rebuilding of all bunkers, with the golf course reopening in October 2022.
