Golf de la Barouge ☆ Follow

Established in 1956, Golf de la Barouge is an 18-hole course located in Mazamet, at the foot of the Montagne Noire. The original nine holes were designed by the Scottish architect Ross Mackenzie, with the second nine added in 1987 by M. Hawtree. The course spans 54 hectares and measures 5,490 meters, playing to a par of 70. The terrain is slightly undulating and heavily wooded, with the Thoré and Issalès rivers winding through the property.

The layout is characterized by precise driving requirements, as dense tree cover on many holes demands accuracy off the tee to find the fairway openings. The course offers a mix of challenging approaches and scoring opportunities, designed to accommodate both beginners and experienced players. The difficulty can be heightened by the region's dominant wind, which often blows in gusts and requires constant concentration.

Historical significance is woven into the club's identity, originating from the local wool-scouring industry that brought British influences to the area. The course has hosted notable figures and events, including a Pro-Am in 1973 featuring Jean Garaialde and regular competitions involving Jean-Claude Killy. The club continues to organize various tournaments, such as the Doublettes and the Classic Mid-Amateurs, maintaining its reputation as a competitive venue in the Midi-Pyrénées region.
