Golf de Chamonix ☆ Follow

The Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course situated in Les Praz-de-Chamonix at an altitude of 1,000 meters. The layout spans 5,718 meters, with a total length of 6,077 meters. The course was designed by the renowned American architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., who was commissioned to expand the original 9-hole layout into the current 18-hole configuration. The project was initiated in 1977 following a municipal decision in 1972, and the course was inaugurated on September 26, 1982.

The setting is defined by its Alpine location, with the 17th fairway offering a view of the north face of Mont Blanc and the cascade of seracs from the Bossons glacier. The terrain features slopes and gentle contours that do not require extraordinary physical effort, yet the layout remains strategic. Jones’s design incorporates numerous bunkers in play, well-defended and often plateaued greens, and streams running along the holes. The architect’s approach balances strategy and aesthetics, utilizing the natural topography to create a challenging environment.

The club’s origins date back to the 1930s, initially catering to Anglo-Saxon clientele with a 4-hole course opened in 1934. It expanded to 9 holes in 1935 before the major redevelopment in the late 1970s. The course is located at 35 Route du Golf, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France.
