Located 30 km south of Hurghada International Airport along the Red Sea coast, Madinat Makadi Golf Resort is an 18-hole championship course designed by John Sanford Golf Design. The layout measures 6,871 meters (7,514 yards) from the back tees and plays to a par 72. The course is set within a desert landscape featuring rolling terrain and undulations, offering views of the Red Sea and the surrounding mountains. It includes a separate nine-hole par 3 executive course and extensive practice facilities, including multiple hitting areas, practice greens, and bunkers. The design incorporates sustainable practices suited to the arid environment, utilizing drought-resistant paspalum grass strains—Sea Dwarf for the greens and Seashore for the fairways. The course features 1,200 date palms and 200 Washingtonia palms. Playability is supported by six non-gender tees per hole, allowing for varying distances from 4,153 meters to 6,871 meters depending on the tee box selected. The front nine includes three lakes, while the overall difficulty is reflected in course ratings ranging from a 118/67.8 for the forward tees to a 140/78.1 for the back tees. Key characteristics of the layout include significant topographical challenges, particularly on the 11th and 16th holes. The 11th is a short par 4 with a sloping fairway that descends toward the green, adding considerable distance to the drive. The 16th hole also features steep undulations that test the golfer's approach. Well-placed bunkers protect the greens throughout the course, demanding accuracy from tee to green. The resort has been recognized as Egypt’s No. 1 Golf Resort for the years 2014 through 2019 by the World Golf Awards. It hosts winter PGA training camps and accommodates European tournament series finals and incentive events. The facility offers a golf academy with lessons for all skill levels, including clinics for beginners, and provides caddy services with free bag storage. The course operates year-round, benefiting from the region's dry climate and 365 days of sunshine.
