Golf Club Eppan, known as "The Blue Monster," is a 9-hole course located in the Etsch Valley near Eppan in South Tyrol, Italy. Designed by renowned golf architect Thomas C. Himmel, the course features over 10,000 square meters of greens set against a dramatic mountain backdrop.
The layout is characterized by its exceptionally flat terrain and notably high groundwater levels, which influenced the design philosophy of incorporating multiple artificial lakes throughout the course. These water features serve dual purposes: as aesthetic and ecological enhancements while also functioning as water reservoirs for course maintenance.
The course presents a challenging nine-hole layout with demanding holes that require strategic play around the numerous water hazards. The combination of pristine greens, scenic water features, and surrounding alpine landscape creates a distinctive playing experience. Additional naturalized areas complement the course design, contributing to its unique environmental character.
Golf Club Eppan has received international recognition, earning a prestigious 4-Star Superior classification from the BVGA for excellence in course maintenance, service quality, infrastructure, and playing conditions. The course continues to evolve through ongoing renovations overseen by South Tyrolean golf architect Wilfried Moroder to meet contemporary golf standards.
