Glen Oak Country Club is a private golf course located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, an affluent Chicago suburb. The course was established in 1911 when Glen Oak Country Club took ownership of the former Pickwick Country Club, which had commissioned renowned golf course architect Tom Bendelow to design a nine-hole course in the early 1900s.
The course is characterized as a traditional layout beautifully lined with mature trees and vivid green fairways. It is renowned for its impeccable conditioning and fast greens, presenting a challenging and scenic golfing experience. In 1940, Glen Oak was rated among the five most difficult courses in Illinois with a par of 72 or less. The course record stands at 63, set by Golf Professional Danny Mulhearn.
The course features notable historical elements, including the remains of a historic railroad depot near the ninth hole tee box and the "Pinky" statue at the main entrance, commemorating a legendary caddie and reflecting the club's commitment to a walking golf program.
Glen Oak has hosted the Splinter's Tournament since 1950, an annual tradition where the winner's name is inscribed on a historic gnarled log bench positioned at the number one tee. The club celebrated its 110-year anniversary in 2021 and has undergone significant renovations in recent years, including a new irrigation system and sports complex.
