Located in Sumoto, Hyogo Prefecture, Sumoto Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course set on Awaji Island. The layout measures 7,002 yards from the back tees with a par of 72. The course was originally designed by Hajime Ueda, with supervisory design by Yuji Kobayashi. The terrain is characterized by the island's natural topography, featuring varied elevation changes and views of the surrounding landscape that change with the seasons. The course presents a significant test for golfers, with a course rating of 74.5 and a slope rating of 140 from the back tees. The front nine plays for 36 par, while the back nine also plays to 36 par. Key holes include the par-5 13th, which stretches 555 yards from the back tees, and the par-3 16th, which measures 172 yards. The 11th hole is designated as the most difficult on the scorecard with a handicap of 1, while the 8th hole is the easiest with a handicap of 18. Sumoto Golf Club opened in 1965, founded by Tokio Inoue, the founder of Sanyo Electric. The club was originally named Sumoto Country Club before changing its name to Sumoto Golf Club in 1991 following the construction of a new clubhouse. The course underwent a significant renovation in 2002, which included converting the greens to Bentgrass. The club has hosted professional tournaments, including the Kansai Open Golf Championship in 2006 and the Nojigiku Open Golf in 2014. The facility includes a driving range with 11 bays, a bunker practice area, and three practice greens. The course features multiple tee boxes to accommodate different skill levels, with yardages ranging from 5,269 yards for the ladies' tees to 7,002 yards from the back markers.
