Located in Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Awajishima Country Club is an 18-hole golf course situated in the Kitatan region with sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea. The course layout was designed to utilize the natural terrain, featuring a mix of elevated tees, downhill shots, and doglegs that separate fairways with pine trees. The total par is 72, with the front nine totaling 36 and the back nine also at 36. The course offers multiple sets of tees, including back, regular, front, and ladies' tees, allowing for varying yardages depending on the player's skill level. The front nine begins with a wide, open fairway on the 410-yard 1st hole, leading into a series of strategic challenges. The 2nd hole is a 359-yard par 4 that requires a tee shot over a valley to a dogleg left, while the 3rd hole presents a 615-yard par 5 with a significant 100-meter elevation drop to the green. The 4th hole is a 156-yard par 3 over water, with a large bunker guarding the front of the green. The 5th hole is a 347-yard par 4 that plays uphill to a protected platform green, and the 6th is a 185-yard par 3 over a valley with water, offering expansive ocean views from the tee. The front nine concludes with the 9th hole, a 470-yard par 4 that plays downhill into a left dogleg. The back nine starts with a 428-yard par 4 on the 10th hole, followed by a 183-yard uphill par 3 on the 11th. The 12th hole is a 482-yard par 5 with a platform green flanked by bunkers. The 13th hole is a 441-yard par 4 that plays downhill, requiring a precise second shot to avoid a pine tree obstacle. The 14th hole is a 467-yard par 5 that plays uphill to a sloping green. The 15th hole is a 476-yard par 4 over a valley, offering views of the Awaji hills and the Seto Inland Sea. The 16th hole is a 186-yard par 3 over water, with views extending to the Akashi area. The 17th hole is a 354-yard uphill par 4, and the 18th hole is a 401-yard par 4 that plays downhill off the tee and uphill to the green, with water guarding the left side of the fairway. The course has a history dating back to 1961, when the Awaji Kanko Development Co., Ltd. was established. The 9-hole course opened in July 1963, with the remaining 9 holes completed by October 1964. The club has hosted various tournaments, including the Monthly Cup starting in 1964, the New Year's Cup in 1966, and the Club Championship in 1970. The course was renamed Awaji Country Club in 1984. The club has undergone several renovations, including a green conversion to bent grass in 2003 and a 50th-anniversary celebration in 2013. The course is known for its strategic design, with wind and elevation playing significant roles in shot selection.
