Located in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, Awara Golf Club features two distinct 18-hole courses totaling 36 holes. The Sea Course, which opened in 1961, is situated within the Echizen Coast Quasi-National Park and is characterized by pine forests and coastal terrain. The Lake Course, completed in 1973, runs alongside the quiet waters of the Kitagata Lake. The club has hosted significant tournaments, including the 56th Japan Women's Open Golf Championship in 2023 and the 1983 Japan Women's Open. The Sea Course presents a seaside challenge where managing wind is critical. The 1st hole is a par-5 right dogleg that offers views of the Sea of Japan and the island known as "Kaminojima." The 5th hole, a par-5 with a handicap of 1, is a downhill shot offering views of the Kashima forest and the lake, featuring a narrow green. The 18th hole is a demanding par-5 with a long, 41-yard green that has complex slopes, requiring precision approach shots after a wind-affected drive. The Lake Course offers a different test, described as full of individuality and change. The 3rd hole is a demanding uphill par-5 with out-of-bounds on the left. The 12th hole is a long par-5, while the 18th hole is a 414-yard par-4 from the back tees. The course layout includes various tee boxes for different skill levels, with the back tees providing the most significant yardage challenges. The club's history dates back to 1960, with the Sea Course opening as a 9-hole facility before expanding to 18 holes, followed by the Lake Course's development in the 1960s and 1970s.
