Located in the center of the Kanto Plain in Ibaraki Prefecture, Shimodate Golf Club occupies a 690,000-square-meter flat terrain that offers expansive views toward Mount Tsukuba. The course opened on October 14, 1996, and was designed by renowned architect Hideo Sugimoto. The layout takes advantage of the wide, flat topography to create a strategic challenge for golfers of all skill levels, from beginners to veterans. The 18-hole, par-72 course features three sets of tees, with yardages ranging from 4,915 yards from the red tees to 6,381 yards from the blue tees. The front nine totals 3,054 yards from the blue tees, while the back nine measures 3,327 yards. The design incorporates undulations, water hazards, and trees to create a challenging environment. The course is described as a high-difficulty championship course where players can enjoy the four seasons against the backdrop of Mount Tsukuba. The front nine includes a mix of par-3s, par-4s, and par-5s, starting with the 142-yard first hole from the blue tees. Notable long holes on the outward half include the 529-yard sixth and the 471-yard fourth. The back nine presents its own tests, highlighted by the 514-yard eleventh and 516-yard seventeenth, both par-5s. The shortest blue tee hole is the 192-yard sixteenth, a par-3 that provides a contrast to the longer par-5s scattered throughout the layout. Facilities at the club include a clubhouse with a lounge displaying various products and vehicles, a restaurant with views of the second hole, and locker rooms for up to 193 men and 64 women. The property also features a driving range with seven bays and a 40-yard distance, offering one free basket of 25 balls per person. The club hosts various events and competitions throughout the year, maintaining a focus on friendly golf life and social interaction.
