Frederica Golf Club is a Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole championship course located on St. Simons Island, Georgia, set across more than 300 acres. The course was created in collaboration with Sir Michael Bonallack of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and incorporates the natural landscape as a defining element.
The course is renowned for its dramatic earthworks and environmental integration. Over seven million cubic yards of sandy soil were moved to create the highest ridge in Glynn County, while more than 1,100 massive live oaks were transplanted to tower over the dunes and ridges throughout the layout. The design features five sets of tees to accommodate varying skill levels, broad fairways, and expansive sharp-edged bunkers. Notably, Frederica boasts the largest greens of any Fazio design, contributing to its distinctive character and playability.
The course presents varying challenges through its strategic use of elevation and hazards, combining traditional golf architecture with sensitive environmental stewardship. Its engineering and design have earned recognition within the golf community, with the course establishing a legendary reputation in a relatively short time since its opening. The dramatic landscape of dunes, oaks, and ridges creates a visually striking and memorable playing experience.
