Drayton Park Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course opened in 1993, designed by the renowned Hawtree firm. Located in Abingdon with convenient access from the A34, the course is set across 90 acres of mature parkland landscape. The design features a notably flat terrain, making it walkable while still presenting a genuine challenge through strategic hazarding and course conditions.
The course incorporates several distinctive water features, including Ginge Brook running through its heart and four lakes positioned alongside fairways. A substantial challenge comes from 55 bunkers strategically protecting greens and landing areas, combined with large but undulating greens that demand precision. The parkland setting provides opportunities to enjoy wildlife throughout the round.
Despite its relatively recent establishment, the course has matured considerably since its 1993 opening and remains owned and operated by the McKenna family. The design rewards accurate play, with most golfers finding it challenging to score better than their handicap. The combination of water hazards, bunker placement, and undulating green complexes creates a testing but fair layout that appeals to golfers of varying abilities.
