Devil's Thumb Golf Course

Devil's Thumb Golf Course is an 18-hole prairie-style links course located in Delta, Colorado at the base of the Grand Mesa, overlooking the Uncompaghre Valley. Designed by Rick Phelps of Phelps Golf Design and built by Niebur Golf, the course opened in July 2001 after construction began in spring 2000. The course features a forgiving layout suitable for golfers of all skill levels, nestled into adobe hills with views of surrounding mountains and wildlife including antelope.

The course employs bluegrass on tees, fairways, and first cut rough, with bentgrass greens and fine fescues accenting bunker areas. Devil's Thumb has earned consistent recognition, finishing second in Golf Digest's Best New Affordable Public Course rankings in 2002. It has been repeatedly ranked among Colorado's and the Western Slope's top courses, appearing in Golfweek's Best Courses to Play multiple times and earning the #1 Western Slope ranking from Avid Golf in 2021. The course balances challenge with accessibility while maintaining scenic mountain views and a natural landscape setting.
