Beachwood Golf Course was established in 1931 and boasts a rich history of hosting prestigious golf events. Located about 6 km north from Durban Country Club on indigenous woodland around a mangrove swamp, the course benefitted from a Gary Player design makeover in the mid-1990s. The course features long, narrow fairways in parallel formation leading to smooth-running greens and was rated 29 in the Golf Digest Top 100 Courses in South Africa. The layout includes 41 bunkers around the greens and 33 fairway bunkers, with four holes featuring water features and most fairways lined with trees. An interesting aspect is that the course lies at the southern end of Virginia Airport, with small aircraft and helicopters taking off and landing directly overhead. Hole 6, a par 4, is the signature hole and one of the most demanding par 4s found anywhere. Located on the pristine north coast of Durban with majestic flora and scenic coastal views, the course occupies a premier coastal estate on the water's edge and is protected by enchanting mangroves.
