Situated at an elevation of 1,000 meters in the foothills of Mount Asama, Dai Asama Golf Club is a 6,899-yard championship course located in Mikawa, Nagano. Opened in May 1963, the layout is set within the Karuizawa area, a region known for its cool summer climate and mountain scenery. The course is distinguished by its dual green system, offering two distinct playing surfaces known as the Shirakaba Green and the Matsu Green. This configuration allows for varied strategic play, with the course design providing a layout that challenges players through different pin placements and green complexes. The front nine presents a mix of distances, starting with the 453-yard 1st hole, a long par-4 where the left side is out of bounds. The 5th hole serves as the most difficult par-5 on the front nine, stretching to 496 yards from the black tees. The greens on the Shirakaba side are described as running from front to back, requiring precise approach shots. The back nine continues the strategic demands, highlighted by the 15th hole, a 553-yard par-5 that plays slightly downhill. The green complex on this hole features a significant slope from front to back, with out of bounds guarding the rear, making accuracy off the tee and approach critical. The 18th hole provides a concluding test as a 350-yard par-4. Players must navigate a demanding approach, particularly on the Matsu Green, which requires careful club selection due to its uphill nature. The course features multiple tee boxes, including black, blue, white, gold, and red, allowing for significant yardage variation. The total par for the course is 72, with the front and back nines each carrying a par of 36. The layout has been maintained and renovated over the decades, including a significant renovation in 2011 that updated the club facilities and course features.
