Asama Kogen Country Club Follow

Asama Kogen Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 golf course located in Mitaka City, Nagano Prefecture. It records a total length of 6,753 yards from the back tees and is characterised by its highland scenery embraced by magnificent nature. The course design combines moderate undulation with flat terrain, featuring wide fairways, doglegs, bunkers, and mature trees, creating a layout that demands strategic play.

The difficulty of the course hinges on strategic tee shots and reading the areas around the greens. The 11th hole, in particular, is a famous hole, playing as a par-3 over water from the back tees at 219 yards, presenting a hurdle that requires a carry of more than 180 yards. The 15th hole is a short par-5 of 407 yards from the regular tees and is popular, particularly among female players. The 18th hole is also a short par-4 at 359 yards, but with a height difference of approximately one metre on the green, club selection becomes crucial when the pin is positioned on the upper tier.

The course layout consists of an out and in course, with the distance and difficulty of each hole carefully set. On the out course, the 1st hole is a 561-yard par-5 and the 9th hole is a 561-yard par-5, both long holes. On the in course, the 13th hole is a 553-yard par-5 and the 15th hole is a 530-yard par-5. Conversely, the 16th hole is a short 140-yard downhill par-3 that tests distance control. While the fairways are wide, out-of-bounds lines, water hazards, and trees are positioned as strategic risks, requiring accurate shots.

Green conditions are also distinctive, with many holes featuring slopes and bumps where reading putts directly impacts scores. For example, the greens at the 1st, 11th, 15th, and 18th holes have significant height differences and slopes, requiring varied approach shots depending on the pin position. The 3rd and 12th holes also have steep undulation, necessitating careful approaches to avoid three- or four-putts. These elements combine to make this a course where golfers can enjoy using their brains and skills amidst the natural highland setting.
