Culver Academies Golf Course

Course Information Unclaimed

Nestled between Lake Maxinkuckee and Culver Woodcraft Camp, the nine-hole course is one of the finest Golden Age designs created by William Langford and Theodore Moreau and restored in 2015 by Bobby Weed Golf Design. The course plays to a par of 36 and measures 3,228 yards. The routing includes three par-5s, par-4s and par-3s, with large greens that possess bold interior contouring.

Prior to restoration, every original bunker was overgrown with grass and putting greens had shrunk significantly in size; the restoration recreated all the bunkers and expanded the putting surfaces by more than a third. Every putting surface is open in front, allowing the option of running shots onto the green, which is available given the firm course conditions. Langford & Moreau spread 36 bunkers across the original nine holes, which were all restored to their intended locations and sizes.

Since its restoration, Golfweek ranked the course as the number 2 campus golf course in America, second only to Yale University. The restored course is considered by some commentators to be the best 9-hole golf course in the USA. Construction started in 1922 and the course opened for play in late spring of 1924. The course is exclusive to Culver Academies students, faculty, staff, and alumni, with a practice area complete with a driving range, short game areas, and putting green, as well as a beautiful new Golf House.
