Crab Meadow is an 18-hole public golf course designed by William F. Mitchell. Located in Northport, New York along the picturesque North Shore, the course measures 6,574 / 5,658 yards with a rating of 71.6 / 73.7 and a slope of 125 / 126. As a par-72 course measuring 6,600 yards from the back tees, it protects its pins with elevation changes and strategic hazards throughout the 18 holes.
The course features breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound on each shot. Trees dot the rough on all holes but the course maintains an open feel with wide, inviting fairways, while playing up and down throughout the terrain. The course is the work of William Mitchell, a designer known as golf's "public defender" during the 1960s for his belief in subtle greens, visible bunkers and other features that made courses more enjoyable for average players.
The par-5 eighth hole was selected as part of Newsday's Long Island Dream 18. This signature hole features hazardous marshland on the left, out-of-bounds on the right, and requires carrying a 40-yard pond in front to reach the green, which is surrounded by four bunkers. The Crab Meadow golf course opened in 1965.
